Sabot sailors,
Back to “normal” again this weekend after another successful, if light weather, 2007 Lidgett Cup. Congratulations to all attendees - hope you learned lots – and, of course, to our race and encouragement award winners. Well done to Tim Hannah on taking out this year’s Lidgett Cup – I think you’ve only got the Geo MacCallum Cup to go to get the full set! Any idea what the appropriate term should be for a full set of Sabot Trophies (States, National, Lidgett, Geo Mac’, Winter Series, et al)? A prize will be awarded at the AGM for the most inventive collective description.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any overall results from the Lidgett Cup, but when/if I do then they will go up on this site. As usual, a big thankyou to all at Davey’s Bay YC for another extremely well organised event.
So, back to home clubs this weekend for some R&R as we prepare for the 2007 Victorian State Championships over two weekends at Black Rock YC on 24/25 March and 31 March/1 April. You can find a NOR and Entry form by following the link below. Any queries, give me a call on 0417-832000 as usual. Don’t forget to get your entries in by the due date.
The VSSA 2007 AGM will be held at Black Rock during the States – more information to come. We are also planning to host a BBQ on the last Sunday of the States at close of racing – i.e. 1 April 2007 – no, this is not a joke! Racing is planned to conclude early enough on the Sunday to allow us to enjoy a BBQ and prize giving at the club. More details to come….
As we wend our way to the end of our season and to the AGM, we look forward to some changes to our committee:
Leavers : Ian Gillies, Martyn Sly, Paul Jenkins, Mal Parsons, Peter Hannah, Morna & Richard Finney and David Voyer will all be leaving the ctte after a good stint “in the chair”. Having contributed to the association over a number of years and particularly up to and including the Nationals at Sandringham, we thank these people for their fantastic contribution to the class. I too will be stepping down, but have agreed to remain as Victoria’s ANSC Exec’ Member for the time being to provide some continuity at the National level, and to assist in the transition to a new leadership team locally.
Stayers : Andy O’Connell and Mario Kalpokas are staying on as rep’s for their respective clubs – Albert Park and Port Melbourne.
Arrivers : whilst not formalised yet, we hope at this stage to be welcoming Ross Fisher as the new RBYC rep’, Sue Dale from Sandringham & Black Rock, Peta Kent as the first Elwood SC rep’ on the VSSA for some time reflecting a resurgence of Sabots there, and Mark Gray and Crawford Wintersgill as the replacement Sorrento SCBC & Mordialloc rep’s respectively. Thank you to all of you for your agreement to stand - I am sure you will be valuable contributors to the association over the next 12 months.
Have just spoken to Steb Fisher – the Nationals photodiscs should be available soon!
That’s your lot for now
Yours in sailing
