Another windy day at the Rock!
The second VSSA coaching day for Gold and Silver groups at BRYC was again a bit on the windy side. The Gold group managed to get out for a blustery morning session with some great training for heavy weather conditions. Micah came back looking refreshed the sailors looked happy but exhausted. With the wind speed getting up to 25 knots, we felt it was not appropriate for the Silvers to go out in the morning so instead they took a ride in the duck with Mike to learn from observing the gold group at work.
The afternoon race was interesting. It was good to see a number of Silvers have a go in the race. After some confusion with the course marks the fleet enjoyed a fast race with George Davies leading the pack home hotly pursued by Jeremy O'Connell.
Start of Bronze Coaching
This coming Saturday (2 nd June) we will be starting the Bronze coaching. Due to lack of water at Albert Park Lake , we have had to find an alternative venue. We were very fortunate that Royal Brighton Yacht Club came to our rescue and on short notice has agreed to host the next two sessions. All groups will start at 10.00am so please have all boats ready and rigged (assuming no gale force winds) by 9.30am. To avoid congestion in the yard, the club has asked us to deliver and rig our boats on the beach.

Future sailing at the Lake ?
Unfortunately water levels at Albert Park Lake are still significantly lower than acceptable for sailing. A test sail undertaken last week proved to be a rather bumpy ride. Although we are all hoping for much needed rainfall, it is far from certain that water levels in the lake will be adequate by 23 rd June, so we are looking at the possibility of having to abandon some or all coaching at the lake this Semester.
If this does become necessary, we may need to change our Semester 1 coaching from Saturdays to Sundays if we move to RBYC. We are still in discussions with the club at this time, but if a change to Sundays would be a problem for any of our sailors, please come and speak to either myself or Andy O'Connell on Saturday (or email us at the contact addresses on this site). I am sorry for this uncertainty but we are doing our best to cope with these dry conditions. Welcome to the world of climate change and global warming.
