One of the first Sabots made in NSW
The 2008 Sabot State Championships will be held at PMYC this year on the 1st and 2nd March. Over the same weekend one of the oldest sailing classes on the bay, the Jolly Boats, will be celebrating their 50 year history with races at PMYC on the Saturday as well as an "Ashes Series" on Sunday 2nd March. The Sabots will be sailing on separate courses from the Jolly Boats. There should be plenty of spectators at these two events and it should present an interesting contrast between the younger and the older sailors, with both groups sailing boats with a history over 50 years old.
The plan for the Sabots will be to hold four races on Saturday then another three on Sunday, with possible adjustments depending on the weather forecast for the weekend.
At the completion of sailing on Sunday, the club will host a spit roast for all the competitors, and any family are also welcome to join in (for an additional cost of $15 per head).
So, if you are a Sabot sailor, make sure you come along to this major event! Please remember, to enter the States Championship, you must be a paid up member of the VSSA and a current member of a sailing club. If you are unsure of your membership status in the VSSA ($50 single or $70 for a Family Membership), please email our Membership Secretary Ross Fisher at ross100@bigpond.com
Entry for the State Championships is $50 (plus $15 for crew of 2-ups) if paid before 22nd February 2008. After this time a Late Entry Fee of $15 will apply.
