Another reminder that the State Championships will be held at Port Melbourne Yacht Club on the 1st and 2nd March. Entry Form and Notice of Race are available on the wesite or by following the links below.
The spit roast at the conclusion of racing on Sunday requires some significant organisation at the club and we need to give PMYC a good indication of numbers of Sabot sailors that will be attending. If you have not already sent off your Entry Forms, please download them now and send them off to the address listed on the form together with a cheque made out to the VSSA for $50 or $65 for 2 ups. Entries after the 22nd February (including Registration on the day) will be subject to a Late Entry Fee of $15.
Boats may be delivered to PMYC on the Friday prior to the States between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm. Boats are to be kept on the deck adjacent to the main club building. No boats can be left in front of the club along the entrance driveway. If you have any questions in regards to this, you can contact the Commodore Walter Edgar on 0414 637072 or by email at commodore@pmyc.asn.au
Remember that all Sabot sailors are encouraged to attend this regatta including Novices who will race a separate and smaller course. The only requirements are that you are a member of the VSSA and a sailing club. (Novices VSSA Membership is free in the first year, and $50 thereafter or $70 for a Family Membership with Membership Forms available on the VSSA website)
Please also remember that you should bring a copy of your Measurement Certificate and a copy of your insurance as specified in the Notice of Race (its a good idea to have these in a plastic wallet that you pack with all your sailing gear whenever you attend a regatta). All boats and sailors must have the appropriate safety gear (specified in the NOR) and Safety Checks will be performed on all boats prior to the Regatta so go through the list and make sure there will be no last minute problems. The most common items missing include Tow rope, bucket, paddle, and lanyards to retain the rudder and centreboard in the event of capsize.

VSSA Coaching
The VSSA committee and our Head Coach Micah Shuwalow are finalising our Coaching Calendar for 2008. This will be completed in March and information and Enrolment Forms will be sent out as soon as possible. Upcoming VSSA supported events you might like to pencil into your sailing diary include the Yachting Victoria Junior Regatta (YV is finalising details), and the Black Rock Yacht Club Cock of the Rock Regatta on the Anzac Day weekend (see the BRYC wesite for details).
Meanwhile, happy sailing,
Mario Kalpokas
President VSSA
