Sabot enews - Black Rock Icicle Regatta and coaching update

Sabot sailors,

It was good to get a break over the Easter weekend from serious Sabot sailing – the Taylor family certainly took advantage of the rest. It remains an important part of the local Sabot credo that we avoid long-weekends and holidays for VSSA Sabot events so as to allow families the opportunity to spend time together doing other things at these times. I know some of you did go sailing anyway – hope you had a good time, and got a better selection of breezes than the International Canoes and Lasers experienced at McCrae for most of the weekend – too windy southerly Saturday, no wind Sunday, gear breakingly windy northerly Monday etc, etc!

I have two reminders for you this week:

Firstly, the annual 2006 Icicle Regatta at Black Rock YC commences this Saturday 22 April – start is 1.30pm so be there around 12-12.30ish to be sure. More details to come later this week. This year the Icicle incorporates the annual Cock of the Rock Regatta which will be run on Saturday 29 April, and then runs for the four following Saturdays. I have to say that the lure of six consecutive Saturdays at the same venue is very attractive after quite a bit of Bay trotting recently. Whilst the Icicle is not a “must do” VSSA event, we endorse it as (1) many clubs are in the process of closing down for winter and the choice of venues for winter racing reduces considerably at this time of year, (2) for this reason there are normally big Sabot fleets racing at this traditional regatta (won last year by Tom Jenkins), and (3) the VSSA coaching program is expected to commence at Black Rock on 29April, 13 May and 27 May to coincide fortnightly with this event – coaching in the morning and racing in the Icicle in the afternoon.

Secondly, I hope you have all completed your Expression of Interest forms for the 2006 VSSA Coaching program and returned them to Ian Gillies. If not, then go to http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/default.asp?Page=17840  and follow the instructions. Forms should be back with Ian by 18 April to finalise costings and group allocations prior to the start of the program.

That’s your lot for now – as usual if you have any queries give me a call on 0417-832000

Yours in sailing

The Pres’
