Sabot enews - 2006 Cock of the Rock results

Sabot sailors,

Heat 2 of the 2006 Black Rock Icicle and 2006 Cock of the Rock was sailed last Saturday at Black Rock YC and could not have been more different from Heat 1 for the 17 Sabots which took part – the wind almost disappeared  before the start, shifted progressively to the right from about 2pm, and then maintained a dismal 5 knots average for the balance of the race. Results from Heat 2 can be found at http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/default.asp?Page=22973&MenuID=Results/1268/0 and the progressive Icicle results after two heats can be found at http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/bryc_hmb/results/icicle/SGrp46.htm

13 Sabots finished the rather frustrating race  - won by Nick Taylor (who seemed to be enjoying the light conditions), followed by Tim Hannah, James Morrison, Andrew Gillies and Emma Louise Daly. Our intrepid two-uppers, Jack and Matthew, eventually were persuaded to shorten the pain and retired along with three others. Nevertheless, congratulations to all those who did stick it out for the duration…

Heat 3 of the Icicle is scheduled for this Saturday 6 May, same time, same place. Now that the other yacht clubs have completed their programs, we should see an increase in Sabot numbers this week. For all other Black Rock YC 2006 Icicle details including the Entry Form see http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/?page=22818&MenuID=News%2F10537%2F0

The 2006 VSSA AGM and Annual Awards Presentation time and venue has now been finalised, you'll be pleased to hear, at 7.30pm on Friday 19 May 2006 at Mordialloc Sailing Club so put it in your diary now! As I mentioned last week, we will attempt to keep the formal part of the evening short and get on to the awards as quickly as possible. As has recently become our habit, leavers from the class will also be recognised on this evening for the contribution they have made – leavers this year are Domnech Finney, Jacquie Gurr, Amy Kivell, James Owen-Smith, Richard Taylor and Shane Voyer. Please join us on the 19th in wishing them well as they move into their chosen youth classes.

Following receipt of sufficient expressions of interest and finalistion of pricing, invitations to join the 2006 VSSA Coaching Program will be distributed this week by Ian Gillies to all those who responded. You will receive an Enrolment Form and details of timing of amounts owing. The Enrolment Form, Medical Form, and final program are all on the Sabot website at http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/default.asp?Page=17840

That’s your lot for now, until next Saturday at the Rock,

The Pres’
