Sabot enews - special guests for the AGM and presentation evening

Sabot sailors,

This week’s enews brings you news of the “special guests” who will address the kids at this week's 2006 AGM and Annual Presentation this Friday at 7.30pm at Mordialloc YC.

We are fortunate that Sam Kivell and Max Taylor, both relatively recent ex Victorian Sabot sailors and in Sam’s case a past State champion, will be joining us to talk to the kids about their experiences post Sabots, and how the Sabot prepares kids for the current YA supported youth classes. Sam and Max are the current Australian 420 Champions and Youth Champions – achievements which will earn them trips overseas this year both to the World 420 Championships and the World Youth Championships. The boys have also recently competed at the last world 420 championships in France – much travelled indeed.

The VSSA will be making a donation to the boys’ not inconsiderable expenses on Friday night as recognition of their involvement in and contribution to the Sabot class in recent years. For those who have not already donated in some other capacity, there will be an opportunity to do so on the night. We look forward to hearing what they have to say.

Reminder to the following that the VSSA perpetual trophies will be returned on Friday night now engraved following the State Championships – Tim Hannah, Kate Jenkins, James Sly, Matthew Botterill, Jeremy O’Connell, Gus Ekberg, Sam Jackson & James McLennan, and Zac O’Connell & Louie Copolov. Be there or miss out on the glory!

The 2006 Winter Series NOR and the 2006 Wintersail Entry form are now on the website – follow links below for all details, and to previous enews for the differences between the two! If still unclear, give me a call…

Following the first of the 2006 Gold Group coaching sessions, Heat 4 of the 2006 Black Rock YC Icicle regatta was completed in a falling breeze last Saturday. There were 17 starters, but a number didn’t finish for one reason or another, allowing Nick Taylor to take another win from a fast finishing Tom Jenkins who was lucky to get past Jason Voyer on the final leg. Jason had harassed Nick al the ay round the course – well done! Cumulative results to date, now after one drop, can be found at http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/?page=22818&MenuID=News%2F10537%2F0 Great results also from George Davies and Jeremy Walker.

Heat 5 will take place this Saturday 20 May at Black Rock YC – start time 1.30pm as usual.

That’s your lot for now – see you Friday night for the AGM and Saturday afternoon for the Icicle,

The Pres’
