Sabot sailors,
Five down and one to go in the 2006 Black Rock Icicle Regatta – the sixth and final heat is scheduled for Saturday 27 May @ 1.30pm as usual. Another drop will also come into play if the sixth heat is sailed which will open the competition some more. There will be a presentation after racing on Saturday, so stay around as the Sabots will be well rewarded as usual.
Heat 5 saw 16 starters and 16 finishers on another relatively quiet day windwise – once again the promised wind evaporated but left a very pleasant afternoon to be out on the Bay. Tim and Nick largely sailed away from the fleet, swapping places for a while before Tim eventually got his nose in front and, by virtue of remorseless covering, took the win by one and a half minutes. The rest of the fleet were a fair distance astern of the leading two, lead by Tom Jenkins and Cam Parsons. Emma Louise Daly did great things making up a big gap to finish sixth, and credit should also go to Matthew Taylor, Jeremy Walker, Tom Fisher and Gus Ekberg for all putting in good performances on the day.

The 2006 AGM passed very pleasantly last Friday at Mordialloc SC when we also welcomed Sam Kivell and Max Taylor to tell us something of their stellar and international life in sailing post the Sabot – thanks to Mordy for hosting once again. We said goodbye to six of our graduating sailors, and to four of our committee members - Barry Kivell, Trevor Gurr, Cherrie Owen Smith and Jon Hyde – thanks to all. We also welcomed onto the committee Mal Parsons (Secretary), Mario Kalpokas (Treasurer) and Kirsten Mitchell (Social) and look forward to working with this team going forwards.
As usual, if you have any queries that cannot be answered by the above call me on 0417-832000,
Yours in Sailing
