Sabot sailors,
Apologies for the late delivery of this enews – I have been waiting on important changes to the 2006 YV Junior Regatta Notice of Race (NOR).
As most of you will know from the Calendar, this coming weekend 15 & 16 July is the 2006 YV Junior Regatta to be held at Albert Park YC. In the past this has been used as an annual  selection event for the YV Junior Team however, this year YV are intending something different, and the replacement for the team concept is yet to be fully communicated to the Sabot Class but, we are lead to believe, will not be similar to previous years.
Notwithstanding, the Junior Regatta is a good opportunity, especially at this time of year, for all Sabot sailors to improve their regatta preparation and performance – indeed it should be a must for Gold Group members, and, whilst not mandatory, we encourage all other Sabots to compete for the benefit of the experience.
The Notice of Race that is currently on the YV Website has some errors in it – namely the entry fee and the late fee. As late as this morning, your committee has been lobbying YV to reduce the fee and we appear to have had some success. According to John Mooney @ YV, the fee should now read $40 for single handers and $50 for double handers. Whilst this is a move in the right direction, I am still of the opinion that it is too high for a junior regatta of this type. Further, since the fees have still not been amended in the NOR, and the date for receipt of entries is tomorrow, we have demanded the late fee penalty be removed, and this has been agreed to by YV. If you have already paid you will be refunded the difference. Entries can be made on the day at the club. The current version of the NOR can be found at: http://www.vic.yachting.org.au/site/yachting/vicsailingteam/downloads/2006/2006JuniorRegattaNOR.pdf

On the coaching front we bring your attention to the updated colour coded program on the website http://www.vicsabot.yachting.org.au/site/yachting/vicsabot/downloads/Coaching%20program/2006%20Program/Sabot%20Coaching%20Program%202006%20Final%20Calendar%204%20July%202006.doc as there is still some confusion amongst the newer parents. Although we have previously provided clarification for participants and their parents, there still seems to be some confusion - are you not reading the info’ we are sending? If you have any queries at all regarding the operation and management of the coaching program please call Ian Gillies – the program coordinator.
Reminder #1: 2nd instalment of coaching payments are due no later than 1st August which is only 2 weeks away. Gold $325, Silver $300 and Bronze $160. Please ensure cheques are made payable to VSSA Inc' and handed to Ian Gillies – no cash please.
Reminder #2: as the lake provides relatively benign conditions, formal movements between coaching levels may only occur after a couple of weeks on the bay.
Yours in sailing, and, for those who will be there, see you over the weekend on the lake,
The Pres’
