Sabot enews - heat 5 of the Winter Series coming up

Sabot sailors,

Well, after a short break for a windless and shortened 2006 YV Junior Regatta, we are back at the lake this Saturday for a full day of coaching and racing. Let’s hope the wind returns before our kids give up in disgust!

Coaching commences at 9.00am as usual for all groups – Bronze, Silver and Gold – and you should by now have received your instructions from our class coach Mark Jackson. There will be a club race in the afternoon as usual, and this will constitute heat 5 of the 2006 Sabot Winter Series.

Reminder that the second tranche of coaching fees will be due on Tuesday Aug 1st - No Pay No Play after this Saturday! Fees due are as follows - Gold $325, Silver $240, Bronze $160. Payment by cheque to VSSA Inc’ please - NO cash. All payments to Ian Gillies as usual for coaching.

I will echo Mark Jackson’s comments about the fantastic effort from Sam Kivell and Max Taylor at the World Youth Championships in England. Sam was a winner of the Victorian Sabot Championships in 2003, and Max was a long time Sabot sailor locally. Although neither shone on the national Sabot scene, they have matured into great sailors.

It is a testament to the class, and its relevance going forward, that it continues to produce great sailors of genuinely world quality. The current Australian Sailing Team also includes many ex Sabot sailors – Matt Belcher, Krystal Weir and Nathan Outteridge for starters. Past local Sabot sailors who have gone on to greater things are too numerous to mention but include Mark Turnbull and John Bertrand as examples. Well done Sam and Max!

See you on Saturday at the lake

Yours in sailing

The Pres’
