Sail Sandy, Nationals Team selection, and Chelsea Dinghy Championships

Sail Sandy Regatta is coming up this weekend. Entry can be made online at SYC (follow the links from: http://www.yachtingvictoria.com.au/ ).

This event is open to all dinghy sailors and the VSSA will again use the results from Sail Sandy to assist in selecting the team to represent Victoria at the Nationals in Airlie Beach this summer. If you are considering coming up to Airlie, you should sail at SYC this weekend.

In addition to the Victorian National Team of twelve, all other VSSA members are encouraged to participate in the Nationals by sailing in the Sabot Week team. These are a series of races run in the morning, before the Nationals competition gets underway each afternoon. If you are interested in participating, please email me mkalpokas@mac.com or call me  0409 66 23 89. We would love to have as many sailors as possible from Victoria, plus, its great fun.

Selection for the National Team  (12 sailors) will be on the basis of:

First 8 placegetters at Sail Sandy then,

the remaining 4 places are to be decided at the discression of the VSSA Committee. This allows us to take into consideration gear failure, illness, etc, to ensure we have th strongest possible team.

There may be sailors that come in the top 8 at Sail Sandy that might enjoy the more relaxed environment at Sabot Week. If this sitation arises, we will discuss this with the parents. If anyone has any questions regarding the Nationals Regatta, please feel free to contact me.

At Sail Sandy, Ben Solly will also have a form to register interest in coming up to Airlie Beach. We are working hard at organising transport for our boats and as this will involve significant expense, we will require a deposit to be paid within the next 2 weeks in order to reserve a space for your boat.

Victorian Dinghy Champiuonships at Chelsea Yacht Club

This event will be held on the 8th and 9th November with 4 races each day. Online Entry available at the YV website.

I have received an email from Jane Moffat at YV asking for the numbers of Victorian Junior Sailing Team members that will be participating in the Championships. Based on this, YV will provide free coaches for the registered Team members at the Championships. If you are a member of the Junior Team, and you intend to participate at Chesea, you must email me no later than Friday 17th October.

Happy sailing,

Mario Kalpokas
